Andrade Netto earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from ITA - Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica, his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Unicamp, with post-doctorate degree in Information Technology from T.H. Darmstadt - Germany. He is a full professor at Unicamp where he has taught approximately 25 different subjects in the undergraduate and graduate courses, and was the advisor for 22 Master's degree and 10 Ph.D. degree students.

He published more than 80 papers in Brazil and abroad as well as a book on Industrial Automation, and received the Zeferino Vaz Academic Award.

He developed several projects for companies such as the São Paulo Subway System, Alcoa, Industrias Villares - Elevadores Atlas, Equipamentos Clark etc. He was Industrial Under Secretary of the Special Secretariat for Information Technology of the Office of the President of the Republic, Head of the Department of Manufacturing Automation at the Information Technology Center and Coordinator for the Electrical Engineering Undergraduate Department of Unicamp. He is a member of the Specialists' Committee in Engineering Education of the Ministry of Education and acts as the Brazilian Representative to the Mercosur for the University Evaluation area.
