Saul Gonçalves d'Ávila Scientific and Technological Affairs Director Goncalves d'Avila earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Paraná, his D.Sc. in Chemical Engineering Sciences from the Graduate Engineering Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE-UFRJ), and Post-Doctorate degree from the University of California in Berkeley, U.S. He is the author of more than 100 scientific, technological and educational publications, a result of his activities in teaching, research and consulting performed in Brazil and abroad during the last 30 years, with emphasis on those prepared as Unicamp's Full Professor.

He was the Executive Director of CODETEC - Cia. de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico, a private company that transferred technology generated by universities; Director and President of PROMOCET, a state company dedicated to promote technological innovation; and Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Secretariat of Industry, Commerce, Science and Technology of the State of São Paulo. Currently, he is a partner of CEDET - Centro de Desenvolvimento Profissional e Tecnológico, a continous education, and research & development company. He is a Consultant of several Brazilian companies involved in technological innovation. Furthermore, he periodically acts as Visiting Professor of Chemical Engineering to major university research centers.
