At the beginning of the 90's, a small group of scholars, faculty
and businessmen planted the seed for more interaction between companies
and universities to promote scientific and technological development.
The discussions generated by this group produced results, and a
permanent forum for university-company relations was organized to
structure and formalize its meetings.
|
| The idea grew and the
number of interested parties increased. In February 1992, Instituto
Uniemp was founded to catalyze and serve as a liaison between university
and private enterprise but always seeking meand to develop science
and technology. Its great challenge is to promote the process of change
in Brazilian society, to show that companies can generate technology,
but do not need to have their own research centers -- companies should
create partnerships with universities with appropriate guidelines
from the public sector, i.e., laws and regulations that encourage
development. With the involvement of the three sectors and Uniemp
acting as a liaison, we may think in terms of technology generation
for Brazil's development. |
