Uniemp's main function is to enter into partnerships with universities, companies and the public sector, always with the objective of promoting innovation.

Uniemp's role is to identity promising areas and research new products or processes, the most qualified research institutes to develop this research and the companies that may be interested in the results. It also concentrates on creating specific research projects, focused on results.

Furthermore, the Institute coordinates and obtains resources from companies and official aid agencies, assists in filing for patents resulting from these projects in Brazil and abroad and manages on-going projects.

Its model was created to render services to companies of all sizes, proved that they are interested in developing specific technologies to increase their products' competitiveness.
